When you have a table that runs over two pages or more, it makes sense to repeat the column headers of that table to aide visibility. It’s incredibly frustrating to have flip back and forth and could ultimately lead to errors when reading the report. There is a property within Paginated Reports that allows you repeat Column Headers on a Table, however, there are a couple of additional steps that are required to enable this to happen. It’s not intuitive and I frequently forget so hopefully this will not only help me, but possibly you as well.
1. Select the entire Tablix and turn RepeatColumnHeaders to True.
2. At the bottom right, click on the dropdown arrow and change to Advanced Mode.
3. Right click on the header row, usually called Static. There could be more than one row, depending if you have grouped your data and have a hierarchy.
4. Change the RepeatOnNewPage to True.
5. If you have more than one Row Group you will need to decide which layers you want to repeat on the new page and set the RepeatOnNewPage to True for each static layer, and also you need to turn Keep with Group to After.
Like everything, once you know how to do it, it’s easy, but finding out how to do it requires some good googling skills and this one is buried deep in the user interface. If you are starting to use Paginated Reports from Power BI it can be frustrating because you know how to navigate through Power BI, but are then having to learn a new way of thinking and designing. A video tutorial on this is the link below and is part of a series of sessions which I have found to be very useful. Also, try searching for SSRS rather than paginated reports when you are looking for “how do I do?”
Any questions, happy to help,
Sue
