Mastering DAX

So very thrilled to complete this. It’s been a real roller coaster of a journey which has involved dark rooms and rocking back and forth. What helped was also reading the book at the same time.

I found working through the Demo files whilst watching the clips also helped as I could make notes and add in images to explain different concepts.

Completing the data modelling course helped understand the most effective method of building a data model and how the vertipak engine works which helped explain how DAX works. I build my models very differently now and understand the purpose of normalising at 1NF rather than 3NF.

Expanded tables were a revelation in visually understanding filter context and examples of querying within DAX studio have also been invaluable.

Whilst I have completed the course, I think that by revisiting some of the topics with the knowledge I have now, is going to reveal further concepts that I didn’t grasp at the time. There are many layers of understanding, which can be frustrating but also incredibly satisfying.
